The first research about DAO enzyme it is from 1927 from Charles Herbert Best. This\u00a0Canadian\u00a0scientist was the first one to came out with Histaminase, what years later would be known as a DAO enzyme.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Charles Herbert Best<\/a>, just a few weeks after receiving an\u00a0Honors\u00a0Baccalaureate in Physiology and Biochemistry, jumped at the chance to assist Dr. Frederick Banting with a research endeavour that would eventually change the lives of millions. Banting and Best had isolated insulin<\/strong>, an internal secretion produced by the pancreas that could be used to treat diabetes. This\u00a0discovery\u00a0lead them to won the Medicine Novel Price on 1923.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

After\u00a0becoming\u00a0world known as the co-discoverer of\u00a0insulin, Charles Best went on to complete doctorates in both medicine and physiology in 1928. His investigation with the Dr. Henry Dale lead them to\u00a0discover\u00a0for the first time the\u00a0histaminase<\/strong>. An\u00a0innovation\u00a0enzyme of histamine. Years after Dr. Schayer\u00a0renamed it as a\u00a0Diamine Oxidase (DAO)<\/a>. Named after the capacity of\u00a0inhibition\u00a0the biologic activity of histamine. Histamine is a molecule that has a wide\u00a0spectrum\u00a0of physiological\u00a0functions. In 1927 they finally get to\u00a0assault\u00a0for the first\u00a0time, histamine\u00a0from lung and\u00a0kidney\u00a0tissue.<\/p>\n

Best was the first to\u00a0raise\u00a0the possibility that histamine was made from histidine<\/strong>, an essential\u00a0amino acid. And he deduced that the\u00a0problem was found in the malfunction of DAO enzyme, present in our gut. And therefore the incapacity to\u00a0properly\u00a0metabolize the histamine present in food.<\/p>\n

In 1993 the studies about DAO enzyme were taken up and\u00a0until\u00a0today they are still growing.
